Cameristi Del Teatro Alla Scala
One of the most interesting and active Chamber Ensembles, that of Teatro alla Scala of Milan, is participating in this year's 'Dimitria'. Also known as 'Cameristi della Scala', they will present a progamme that includes, inter alia, works by Vivaldi and Bach. Participating musicians include Francesco Manara (violin), Yiannis Titselikis (Cello), Massimo Polidori (cello), and Massimo Mercelli (flute), while during the concert the Scala Chamber Ensemble will meet MOYSA, the Thessaloniki Concert Hall Youth Symphony Orchestra, who will join them in one of the pieces to be performed.
The Teatro alla Scala of Milan Chamber Ensemble ('Cameristi del Teatro alla Scala') was founded in 1982 and consists of musicians from the Theatre Orchestra. In 2012 it received the 'Isimbardi Award', which is given to institutions that, thanks to their international activity, contribute to promoting Milan on a global level.
Their repertoire includes all the main compositions for Chamber Ensembles from the 18th century to date. It also includes some lesser known 19th century pieces, which often include solos that require great virtuosity. Thus, the performance skills and virtuosity of the 'Cameristi' are highlighted, seeing as they are all principal members of the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra and internationally renowned concert soloists.
Their continuous and long collaboration with the most important orchestra conductors on the international music scene – from Riccardo Muti to Daniel Barenboim – has shaped the sound of 'Cameristi della Scala'.
They have performed in the most important theatres and concert halls of the world. Those include Carnegie Hall (New York), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Tchaikovsky Hall (Moscow) and Teatro Colise (Buenos Aires), while they have toured China, Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Latvia, Serbia and Turkey. From 2007 to 2009 they starred in the Great Summer Concerts in Piazza del Duomo of Milan, with pieces never before heard, written by Italian composers especially for the 'Cameristi'. In 2011, for the 150th anniversary celebration of the Italian Unification, the 'Cameristi' collaborated with the 'Associazione Musica del Risorgimento' and carried out important research on the new repertoire of the 19th century. In 2011 they recorded a CD dedicated to the Italian music of the Risorgimento movement (that led to the unification of Italy). Last October they performed at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York, for the 60th anniversary of Italy joining the International Organisation.
