GÜNTER BABY SOMMER
The monstrous act committed in Kommeno was one of the largest slaughters of civilians during the Nazi occupation of Greece. On 16 August 1943 Nazi forces entered the village and slaughtered nearly half its population.
In 2008 Günter Baby Sommer, a composer from Dresden, arrived at the village, and learnt the story from the locals; he decided to put their “memory to music”. He invited Greek musicians Floros Floridis, Evgenios Voulgaris, Spilios Kastanis and Savina Giannatou, and created the quintet that will present the “Songs for Kommeno.”
