An athlete’s preparation is required for the soloist of Shostakovich’s first concerto for violin and orchestra, presented by the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, with internationally renowned virtuoso Giorgos Dermetzis, conducted by Andreas Tselikas. This is a unique concert presenting two works by Russian composers. The partnership is in line with the broader philosophy of the 49th Dimitria Festival seeking more dynamic synergies with city agencies.
The second part of the concert includes the popular and dream-like “Scheherazade”. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov narrates the beloved eastern fairy tale in an atmospheric suite, pinning the audience to their seats, just as Scheherazade riveted the sultan.
