Chopin in love or Werther in love? How is an emblematic, epistolary novel of the 18th century connected to the work of a top composer from the 19th century in a poetic ballet of the 21st century? Is romanticism the common ground, is it love or music? In the ambitious performance of the National Opera, “The Sorrows of Young Werther” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, unravel along with the melodies of pieces for piano by Frederic Chopin, like a conversation of a composer in love with the hero in love, in a ballet in two acts signed by award-winning French choreographer Yannick Boquin.
