A 24h performance - Jan Fabre
Jan Fabre presents his latest work, entitled “Mount Olympus / 24h - To glorify the cult of tragedy”. The monumental project measures itself against time. 30 performers and four generations act appear on stage, attending incessantly in order to interpret a play of grand scale, one that aims to explore and redefine the boundaries of the theatrical practice: 24 hours on stage, without intermission. The ancient Greek myth denudes itself from any need of commentary or humane comprehension of the world, with the interest being shifted instead in issues of primary importance, hard and shocking. It’s the unfathomable heroes and heroines that interest the Belgian artist - Medea, Antigone, Prometheus, Oedipus and Elektra, before they were checkmated by psychoanalysis. They perform deeds that are impenetrable, speak a language that falters, goes silent, rattles, vomits or becomes a mere scream.
